Nuveau Heart Feathers

by Stephanie
February 25th, 2011

I will be posting a series of tips on different types of feathers. Since it is still February, I thought some heart feathers would be appropriate.  Nicole Webb has a style of feathers that she calls Nuveau Feathers. The first part of this video shows her quilting the Nuveau Feathers and the second half of the video shows her heart style of feathers. Although she is quilting using a longarm, you can also quilt these 2 feather variations on a domestic sewing machine.

I recommend practicing the heart feathers (or the other feathers) on paper or a white board first. Here is a picture of my first attempt on paper to draw her style of heart feathers. I did have to stop to erase a few times. It’s a lot easier to erase on paper than it is to rip out sewing.

Free Motion Design “Heart Flow”

by Stephanie
February 10th, 2011

February just naturally makes a person think of hearts. Last week I shared a pattern to make a heart quilt. This week I will share a video to quilt a free motion design call “Heart Flow.”  Maybe you have already heard of Leah Day and her free motion quilting project. She started out to design, 365 free motion quilt patterns in a year. As time progressed, she was not able to keep the pace of one design per day. She still posts to her blog almost everyday, but not every post has a quilt video on it. As of this post, she is at design #252.  Her designs are definitely worth checking out. Here is a link to her Heart Flow Design

Heart Quilt

by Stephanie
February 3rd, 2011

There are many heart shaped quilts patterns available on the internet. I am sharing with you a quick and easy pattern that I found. This would make a cute child’s quilt or a holiday wall hanging. If you make just one block, (the finished block size is 6″x6″), you could glue, or sew it to cardstock to make your own Valentine Card. Here are instructions for a heart pattern
